Coach Mitch Hancock since returning to his alma mater has taken Catholic Central back to the top of the Michigan wrestling mountain and put the Shamrocks back in the top 20 nationally. Hancock enters his sixth year as the head of the Shamrock wrestling program after the departing of legendary coach Mike Rodriguez in '07. Under Hancock, the Shamrocks have reached the Division 1 state finals 3 years in a row, winning titles in 2010 and 2012.
The 2012 squad revenged their loss to Oxford a year earlier, by defeating the wildcats by the third largest margin in Division 1 history, 47-9. The boys of CC finished ranked #15 in the country and wrestled 5 teams ranked in the top 20. Throughout the the Team State tournament the Shamrocks didn't surrendor a single bonus point. The Shamrocks qualified 10 wrestlers for the state tournament, placing 5 in the finals, earning 3 individual titles, with a total of 8 shamrocks placing.
The 2010 squad set Michigan records by being the first Division 1 school to qualify all 14 wrestlers for the Individual State Championship and set another by placing 10 of its 14 wrestlers. In 2011 the CC squad sent 6 wrestlers to the Indvidual State finals with 3 walking away with titles. The CC Alum has coached 5 state champions and 25 all-staters in the past four years.
Coach Hancock competed for Tom Borrelli's Chippewas at Central Michigan University where he earned Div. 1 NCAA All-American honors as a senior by placing 7th at 174lbs in 2005. Hancock was also named recipient of the Chick Sherwood most outstanding wrestler award. Before returning home to CC, Hancock spent one season as assistant coach at CMU under Tom Borrelli.
While in high school, Hancock in his senior year won a state championship for the Shamrocks, placed third at the NHSCA High School Nationals and finished second at the USA Junior National Championships. Hancock also placed 7th at the Junior Nationals and 2nd and 7th at the Cadet Nationals as an underclassmen.
Coach Hancock and his wife Allison recently gave birth to their second child Teague Michael. The Hancock's now have two children Kinsley Ellen Hancock was born on December 18th of 2010 and weighed 7lbs 2oz. She holds the same birthdate as Fr. Ned Donoher. |

Coach Bob Moreau, a 1975 graduate, returned to his alma mater in 2007 to help Hancock lead the Shamrock Wreslting Program. Coach Moreau wrestled under Coach Rod and helped lead the Shamrocks to a Div. 1 Team State Title in 1974.
Coach Moreau has been instrumental in the revival of the Shamrock program. Moreau is commonly known as the "good cop" and keeps things light around the room.
Prior to returning home to CC, Coach Moreau was the head wrestling coach at Livonia Stevenson for 6 years. He led the Spartans to several team state tournaments and coached 6 MHSAA State Champions. Coach Moreau also had the pleasure of coaching his son Joe, former CC assistant under Rod, to multiple all-state honors.
Coach Moreau has had 10 of his former wrestlers go on to compete at the NCAA Div. 1 level.
In 2010, Coach Moreau was named Regional Assistant Coach of the Year.

Coach Russ Hancock joins his son on the CC coaching staff. Coach Hancock has been involved in the sport of wrestling for over 50 years. He wrestled at Royal Oak Dondero and then competed at Northern Michigan University. He later led the Madison Rams Wrestling Club for several years during the early 90's. He was instrumental in the development of many successful high school and collegiate wrestlers. He coached 6

Coach Mike Carrier returns for his 6th season as the Head Freshman and JV coach of the Shamrock program. In 2009, Coach Carrier led the CC Varsity B Team to an undefeated CHSL season and captured the league crown in dominating fashion.
Coach Carrier has been a key ingredient in helping CC continue the tradition of producing State Champs and All-Staters.
Coach Carrier was voted team captain by his teammates in senior season at CC, in which he led the Shamrocks to Catholic League and District Championships. Carrier is also an assistant coach on the freshman football team.
After graduating from Eastern Michigan University in 2010, Mike is currently employed by CC's Office of Advancement as the Director of Alumni Relations. |

Coach Ianni, a 2007 graduate of Catholic Central, returns in his 4th season to help guide the Freshman and J.V squads. He was elected team captain by his peers in his senior season at CC. He helped guide his squad to a Catholic League Championship, District Championship, Regional Championship and into the Elite Eight. Ianni will return to work with the light-weights. Coach Ianni earned his undergrad at U of M and is currently pursuing a degree in Education at EMU.
In Coach Ianni's sparetime, he enjoys spending time with his girlfriend Karen and following Coach Griff.

Coach Griffin returns for his fifth season as Head Varsity B Team Coach. Coach Griffin is a 1996 graduate and former team captain for the Shamrocks. While at CC, Coach Griffin placed 6th in the state, while leading his team to Catholic League and District championships. Coach Griff is currently a member of the English department at CC as he teaches honors courses. Coach Griffin moved to Plymouth after spending eight years teaching and coaching in Chicago and Grand Rapids. In his spare time, Coach enjoys spending time with his new baby boy, Henry, son Emmett and his beautiful wife, Premu.
Under Coach Griff's leadership the B Team has dominated the CHSL winning titles the past three seasons. Coach Griffin is also the instrumental figure in the Shamrocks being named an Academic All State Team for the past 4 years. |

Coach Dave Beazley returns for his third season as a heavyweight coach of the Shamrocks. Coach Beazley brings a wealth of knowledge to the program as he ranks amongst the best coaches in the country as he was named USA's Junior Greco Coach of the Year. Beazley coached at Montrose High School in the 90's were he led the rams to 4 Division 3 State Titles and 1 runner-up finish. Coach Beazley is currently an assistant principal at East Middle School in Farmington Hills. He enjoys cooking with his wife Dacia and spending time with his beautiful children Kevin and Kennedy.
Coach Beazley's son Kevin, won a state title for the Shamrocks last year and also double All Americaned at the Junior Nationals. Kevin commited to wrestle at Old Dominion University and will be a Freshman there in the Fall.

Matt Steintrager enters his third season as a lightweight coach for the Shamrocks. Coach Steintrager has helped with the development of the Shamrock lightweights as well as middleweights. With the addition of Coach Steintrager in 2011, the Shamrocks won individual titles at 125,130 and 135. In 2012 the Shamrocks earned titles at 130, and runner up finishes at 135 and 152.
Coach Steintrager, a CC grad, wrestled at Central Michigan University where he finished his senior campaign in 2010 with a 28-5 record and qualified for the NCAA's at 125lbs. Coach had an impressive high school career in which he won an individual state championship for the Shamrocks in 2003 and placed second at the Junior Freestyle Nationals. In 2004 Steintrager placed second at the Senior Nationals.
2009-2010- MAC champion at 125 pounds as a starter at CMU... earned automatic bid to the NCAA Championships … as the 8th ranked wrestler at the NCAA Championships, Matt posted a 28-5 overall record ... ranked third on the team in victories ... won three consolation bracket matches to place fourth at Midlands … finished a perfect 5-0 in MAC duals … six victories over top-20 opponents, including a pair of wins over No. 6 Jarrod Garnett (Virginia Tech) … ranked third on the team in dual victories with a 15-2 mark.
High School: Won a state title in 2003 and was runner-up at Junior Freestyle Nationals in 2003. In 2004 Matt placed 2nd at the Senior Nationals Championships… three-time Michigan freestyle and Greco-Roman state champion … member of both freestyle and Greco-Roman Michigan Junior National Duals team in 2003 and 2004 … a part of the Michigan Junior Olympic team in 2002 and 2003 … named to the honor roll three times.

Matthew Confer returns for his 3rd season as the Head Varsity Manager for the Shamrocks. With Confer at the Helm of the Managerial staff the Shamrocks have made it to the finals three years in a row and won two titles. Confer is responsible for singlet and warm-up distribution, filming matches, recording scores, inventory, season summaries and much more. Confer is an award winning scholar who carries a 4.6 GPA. He is actively involved with the Brothers Club and is a member of the award winning Shamrock Band. Confer works at the Basilians residency recently visited London with Shamrocks to participate in their New Years Day Parade.
This past summer Confer was named 2012 Manager of the USA Junior National Team. |

Tom returns to the Shamrock staff after moving up a level and serving as Varsity Manager in 2012. Tom also serves as Varsity football manager, is a member of the CC Brother's Club and is highly active within the youth group at his parish. Tom would like to pursue managing either football or wrestling at the college level. |

Coach Biondo: returns for his second campaign with the Shamrocks after helping lead the Shamrocks to a State Championship in 2012. Biondo was catalyst in leading the upperweights to success throughout both the team tournament and individual tournament as Drew Garcia and Kevin Beazley both won titles for the Shamrocks. Biondo was pivitol in the success of senior Kevin Beazley winning a state title and earning All American honors through USA wrestling.
Coach Biondo hails from Ann Arbor where he was a captain of the Wolverine squad his junior and senior year while earning Academic All American honors. Coach Biondo lives in Royal Oak and works for Fox Sports Detroit.
