The Wapakoneta wrestling team finished the best weekend of wrestling in school history over the weekend. The Redskins competed in the 2010 OHSAA State tournament. The Redskins finished in 7th place and had three state placers, including Logan Erb's State Championship.
Freshman John Martin earned his first trip to the State tournament last week with a 2nd place finish at the Marion Harding District. John was not able to place this season, but the experience of wrestling at the State tournament will benefit him in his future years with the Redskins.
Junior Jake Beemer had one goal at the beginning of the 2009-10 season and that was to place at the State tournament. He did just that. After losing to the 119 runner-up and third place finisher, Jake finished 5th after a medical default in the 5th place match.
The Redskins set several school records at the tournament as well:
1) Set the single season record for highest finish as a team at state in school history (7th).
2) Set the single season record for number of state placers (3).
3) Set the single season record for points scored at the State tournament (44.5).
