MIKE KALLAI |
|
Chief Michael C. Kallai, 57, passed away unexpectedly on June 30, 2010.
Mike was born in
Barberton and was an area resident all his life. He was a graduate of
Coventry
High School and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in
Barberton. Mike worked for the City of Barberton Police Department for the past 32 years and was the Chief of Police for the past 13 years. He was a member of the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, (OACP) Certified Law Enforcement Executive (CLEE) Summit County Police Chiefs Association, Chairman of the Emergency Management Executive Committee of Summit County and a Board Member of Victims Assistance and Barberton Red Cross. Mike was a Graduate of the Southern Police Institute Class 96 at the
University of
Louisville and Police Executive Leadership Council Class 28 (PELC). Mike was also very proud to be an assistant wrestling coach at
Wadsworth
High School for the past 19 years. In addition, Mike was an important part of the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association (OHSWCA) for many years.
Preceded in death by his father, George; survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Jennifer; sons, Michael (Meredith), Joe, and Zak (Mary); daughter, Vanessa (Patrick) Williams; granddaughter, Eleanor Williams; mother, Ruth Kallai; brothers, George (Frances), Arthur (Janice), Charles (Jan), Christopher (Debbie) and Gus (Renea); sisters, Aline (Larry) Folden, Esther (Larry) Taylor, Marietta Kallai and Angel (Steve) Stobaugh; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
