Lady Wolves Defeat Decatur in Battle of State Ranked Teams

The Lady Wolves started slow in a 69 to 41 victory this past Tuesday at the Wolves Den, but finished like the Lady Wolves teams of old as they out scored the Lady Bulldogs of Decatur in the second half by a score of 41 to 17.  The Lady Wolves got a huge offensive night from Kaela Davis as she scored 25 points and Emily Adams had her best game of the season by knocking down 15 points to help in the winning cause.  Kaela was 10 of 11 from the free throw line and Em was a perfect 7 for 7 from the charity stripe.  Also, the play of Caitlyn Dawkins off the bench sparked the come back for the Lady Wolves as she made play after play in helping contribute 10 points.  Not everything was great in the game as Lady Wolf Mackenzie Darrah had an injury to her hip after falling to the floor going for a rebound.  We wish her a speedy recovery in getting over her injury.  The win secured the #1 seed for the Lady Wolves in the upcoming region 6AA tournament.  Way to go Ladies!!!

Lady Wolves 2011 – 2012 Season

Outlook

When your program wins three straight AA championships in the state of Georgia, what is the next step in establishing the next level of tradition? You take the show on the road across the nation and play not only the best in Georgia, but the best in the nation. That is what the 2011- 2012 Lady Wolves Basketball Program is planning to do.  After another fantastic season last year which the Lady Wolves recorded a 29-3 record, a 6AA region championship and a third AA state championship, the program plans on taking the Buford tradition on the road and show that they can compete at the highest level, the national level.  After graduating another wonderful and passionate group of seniors from last year’s state championship team, the 2012 Lady Wolves team is ready to step up for the challenge.  They are ready to defend our championship and play with the best in the nation.  We plan on doing this by playing a tremendous schedule which will include a trip out to the Nike Tournament of Champions in Arizona.  This tournament will host a collection of the best girl’s basketball programs from across the country.  Following the TOC tournament, we come back to Georgia and compete in the best tournament in the state in the Peach State Jump Off Classic.  This is another tournament with nationally ranked teams to test our program.  Add regular season games with traditional girls basketball powers Wesleyan, Columbia, McEachern, Lovett and GAC and you have a great schedule that could prove a challenge to any program.

The 2011 summer schedule and fall workouts have shown this year’s team’s dedication and commitment to becoming the best that they can be. From players participating in Breakfast Club Workouts, to Coach May’s Weight Training Program, to Fall Conditioning Program, these players have worked hard to make sure it will be prepared for the challenges that wait for them this season. It will not be an easy task to knock them from the top of the AA mountain or take what they feel is rightfully theirs.

The 2011 – 2012 Lady Wolves have some lofty expectations to live up to as they work to be as successful as the three previous championship seasons.  With the leadership of our four talented seniors and a group of talented underclassmen in the program, we feel we can live up to the challenges that will be placed before this group.  Championships start at the top and boy do we have some seniors who have the experience and leadership to get the job done.  Three year starter and all everything Andraya Carter is back for her senior year and though she is hampered by a knee injury she suffered in the Spring, we will count on her leadership and experience at all levels of basketball to help this team through their challenges.  We hope to see her one more time put on the Kelly and Gold of Buford and play this season. Our returning juniors from last year that will also be taking on the leadership role of a senior this year are Jaqwannia Brown and Emily Adams. Jaqwannia is a consistent player that knows what it means to be a Lady Wolf since middle school. Emily has worked hard to become a whole new player from last year and is ready to do her part on and off the court. Also, returning from taking a couple years away to focus on softball is senior Kallie Case. Kallie is a true winner and competitor that will fight until the end for her teammates and program.  We are excited to have her back in our program.  We have a very talented junior class this year and expectations will be high for this group.  After being in the program for a year and having an outstanding summer, Kaela Davis is ready to step up and lead a veteran laden team.  “KD” participated in the 16U World Championships and in an international 3 on 3 tournament where she represented Team USA and brought home a Gold and Honorary Bronze medal. Mackenzie Darrah, Maya Dillard and Hannah Manley all have worked hard in the off season by playing tons of games this summer, working on their skills and doing whatever it took to reach their individual potential and play their role in order to contribute to a great season.  Add in transfer 6’4” post player Kristina Nelson to this group and you have a class that is capable of taking our program to a whole different level.  This is a great group of juniors that are all big about being Lady Wolves.  Add in a feisty and fired up group of underclassmen to the mix and our program continues to grow in the right direction. The underclassmen competed in over fifty games this summer and are excited to work hard and learn what it takes to wear Lady Wolves on their jerseys. If everyone performs their role, is unselfish, does the famous “controllable factors”, and focuses on doing their absolute best for the TEAM, this year has a chance at being one of the best yet. There will be many challenges and hard lessons to learn, but with a ton of talent, the right attitudes, a strong work ethic, and a love for each other we will become a family- and nothing comes between FAMILY!
